Alistair Kitchen is an Australian writer and journalist. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Meanjin, Overland, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, and elsewhere. He also publishes long-form work on his independent platform, Kitchen Counter.
Alongside his journalism and literary work, he has been a ghostwriter on major book projects and co-authored the landmark Out On The Fields report, the first international study on homophobia in sport. His academic research has also explored subjects ranging from the philosophy of Richard Rorty and the poetry of Seamus Heaney to the politics of environmental NGOs in China.
Kitchen holds an MFA in nonfiction from Columbia University, a Master of Global Affairs from Tsinghua University, where he was a Schwarzman Scholar, and degrees in English literature and philosophy from the University of Sydney. He is currently completing a book on masculinity in Australia and the Anglosphere.
